Knit Socks

I have a sister who does not knit, does not crochet, has no idea what freeform is, nor has she shown any interest
in ANY form of needlework. SHE has a sister who along with a life long love affair with yarns has
an online yarn business that sells to fiber addicts worldwide.
I recently told her about a treasured customer who had just purchased 4 skeins of Great Adirondack's Pashmina
Serengetti at $87 a hank. This just happens to be, in my humble opinion, the most luxurious yarn we've ever
stocked in almost eight years of business. Who wouldn't want all that beauty? This is a hand dyed, American
made luxury fiber not many knitters get to experience.
Her reaction was " you mean to tell me someone spent $348 and then has to make a garment?" " For that
much money, I want it made and wrapped with a bow," she told me.
How sad I thought. She'll never experience the creative joy of making a potential heirloom to be passed from
one generation to the next. I doubt she will ever know the sense of wonderment that 10 fingers, a ball of string,
2 sticks and a healthy dose of imagination will produce. "Just one more row," will never come from her lips,
nor will she drive the family crazy looking for her missing needle. She will never brag about her knitter's stash
and how she won't live long enough to use up all the yarn she has.
Imagine,my sister will never know the fun of opening a new bag of yarn and savoring the richness in the
colors and textures.
I will have to accept the idea that she'll never experience the adrenaline rush I feel touching a velvety,
super soft yarn. I'll have to accept the fact that she'll never call me to say her head is spinning with ideas,
and when can I come over to help.
Well, there's always hope.
