Cross Stitch Patterns on Crocheted Items??
Can you use a cross stitch pattern on crocheted (or even knitted) items? I think if I use the Tunisian stitch I might be able to do that....How about intarsia as well?
It would add so much life to my projects if I was able to use some of the cross stitch patterns I see in books!
Here's a link to a how-to ...
How to Cross-Stitch on a Single Crochet Background:
http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa111702.htm
This snowman cat cross-stitch chart was worked on a single crochet background that was crocheted with thread, for a mini wall hanging (free chart on that page): http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa012701.htm
And here's an example of a charted Hearts and Lines design with the cross-stitch done with worsted weight yarn on a crocheted headband (with free pattern): http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa021905.htm
You can also do a cross-stitch pattern on Tunisian crochet (which is sometimes called afghan stitch). Here's a link to an example of daisy flowers worked on tunisian crochet, with instructions: http://crochet.about.com/library/bldtunisian1.htm
If there are wide enough areas of a color between color changes, then it can work well to use a cross-stitch pattern for intarsia. For example, this airplane chart was worked with the colors crocheted in, rather than cross-stitch on crochet:
http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa041903.htm ... and this helicopter chart: http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa050303.htm ... these charts could easily be used for knitting instead of crocheting, also.
This is a link to an example of a Liberty Bell chart, which was crocheted with color changes on a Drawstring Tote Bag made in single crochet (with free pattern):
